eBay registers member surge after upgrade

PETALING JAYA: Online marketplace eBay, announced that close to 12,000 new members registered on eBay.com.my in the first 30 days following the launch of its upgraded local site on Nov 13. The latest figure stands at 30,000.

The upgrades on the site includes the Advanced Search tool for more accurate searches and the “My eBay” link that displays a customised page for auction and bid management. For the seller, there’s Selling Manager and eBay Sales Reports for tracking and managing sales.

On the security front, eBay.com.my now has an upgraded online Security and Resolution Centre for reporting problems and an eBay Toolbar with Account Guard feature, which will alert a user if they are visiting a fraudulent site.

According to research firm IDC, Malaysia currently has more than 15 million Internet users and e-commerce is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17% through 2010.

“The surge of new registrations on eBay.com.my is encouraging as it indicates that Malaysians recognise this potential and are becoming more comfortable with trading online,” eBay vice-president Dan Neary said in a statement. Recognising that trust is a major issue in trading online, eBay also recently collaborated with MOL AccessPortal to launch MOL SafePay in Malaysia.

MOL SafePay is a secure payment solution that facilitates person-to-person fund transfer securely on eBay.com.my, enabling safe online purchases and sales to be carried out.

If my post helped you, I would appreciate if you help share it. Also it would be good if you can buy me a cup of coffee as well to help keep this site up and running. Thank you.
